Commission Honors Casa Marina

Mayor Teri Johnston and the City Commission Proclaimed Casa Marina Day in honor of the 101 years the stately hotel has been in existence.

Over a century ago, Industrialist Henry Flagler conceived the notion of a resort in Key West, a concept that he enhanced by building a railroad from the mainland all the way to the island city.

The hotel was converted into Navy headquarters during WWII and was commandeered to serve the military during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

“We congratulate the resort staff over the last 101 years,” reads the proclamation, who have upheld tradition and maintained Casa Marina as a leading leisure resort and dining destination for locals and visitors alike.”
