Author brings Key West’s ONE HUMAN FAMILY Message to Space Conference
“Space Is For Everyone“ Organization to debut at Drexel University Interstellar
Summit
PHILADELPHIA, PA—This weekend, along with top scientists, engineers, astronauts, and
quantum physicists from around the world, Key West-based author and educator Mike
Mongo will be in attendance as a presenter at Starship Congress—a two-day summit of deep
space science organizations and advocates staged by science advocacy non-profit Icarus
Interstellar.
Mongo will be introducing the attendees to Space is for Everyone, a new organization the
author is co-founding with support from such individuals as Sirius FX founder Martine
Rothblatt and futurist organization Kurzweil AI. Dedicated to fostering inclusion and diversity
in space and science related professions, Space is for Everyone is directly inspired by Key
West’s ONE HUMAN FAMILY message and co-sponsored by the Key West Gay & Lesbian
Community Center.
“As a life-long advocate of both space and equality, this was the perfect match for me, “ says
Mongo. “After fighting for and winning marriage equality, our work now must continue to
guarantee today’s young students know that wherever they choose to go or whatever career
they decide to pursue they have a place and belong. Key West is not only a great model of
inclusion and diversity for the rest of the world, it’s a great model for the future. I took the
opportunity as president of the GLCC to sponsor Space is for Everybody. My goal is for Key
West’s model of inclusion to be relevant long into the future. Equality is a message that
resonates with all people.”
Mongo is the author of The Astronaut Instruction Manual . He is also a well-known space
science educator, as well as chief brand & culture officer at Icarus Interstellar.
“Developed largely by the creative mind of Mike Mongo, Icarus Interstellar’s Starship
Congress is the world’s largest deep space exploration conference in the world,“ says Icarus
Interstellar president Dr Andreas Tziolas. “With the incredible support shown by the Key
West GLCC and Mr Mongo, we have been been able to develop the conference to produce
essential research through this year’s Interstellar Hackathon. By examining the culture in a
future era where interplanetary travel throughout our solar system is commonplace, we are
discovering the value of diversity, equality and understanding in our world today. Mike
Mongo had been instrumental in comprehending and proliferating this very Key West
message: Space is the place for everyone. ”
Starship Congress is September 4-5, 2015, at Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA.
