Monroe County State Attorney’s Office Announces Sentencing in Vincent Crossland Cases

Key West, FL – The Monroe County State Attorney’s Office has successfully concluded a series of high-profile cases against Vincent A. Crossland 37, whose repeated criminal activities posed a serious threat to community safety. Mr. Crossland’s history of endangering public safety through reckless driving, evading law enforcement, and illegal possession of firearms has culminated in his sentencing by Judge Mark Wilson to 48 months in state prison, followed by 8 years of probation. He was also adjudicated guilty on multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding officers and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The incidents leading to these charges include a 2022 case where Mr. Crossland engaged in a high-speed chase reaching speeds over 100 MPH along, running cars off the road on US1, during which he threw a firearm from his vehicle. He later barricaded himself in a residence, resisting arrest even in the face of negotiation efforts by hostage negotiators from the Monroe County sheriff’s office. SWAT intervention was ultimately required to apprehend him. Mr. Crossland was also found in possession of another firearm concealed within the residence.

In 2023, Mr. Crossland again led Sheriff’s Deputies on a dangerous pursuit that resulted in a crash causing extensive property damage and posed a serious risk to pedestrians. He fled the crash site, further demonstrating a pattern of reckless disregard for human life and law enforcement.

State Attorney Dennis Ward stated, “Vincent Crossland’s outrageous behavior, running cars off the road, driving 100 mph down US1, his repeated possession of firearms, and his total disregard for the safety of our community and law enforcement officers, is utterly unacceptable. My office has no tolerance for this kind of reckless endangerment.”

Assistant State Attorney David Alvarez, the lead prosecutor on the case, emphasized the resolution’s significance: “The successful prosecution of Vincent Crossland is a testament to the perseverance and dedication of our legal team. This case was complex, involving multiple felony charges and required meticulous coordination with law enforcement. The outcome sends a strong message that such reckless behavior will not be tolerated and will be met with serious consequences”.

Chief Assistant Joseph Mansfield stated,”The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office played a crucial role in both the apprehension and the subsequent investigations. The swift and decisive actions of deputies and SWAT team members have once again kept our community safe from a dangerous individual. Their commitment to duty and their skill in handling such high-stakes situations are commendable. This case highlights the effectiveness of our legal system in addressing repeat offenders and underscores the importance of community safety. Mr. Crossland’s sentencing reflects our community’s and judicial system’s unified”.
