Woman charged with robbery for snatching phone from woman’s hand

A Key Largo woman was arrested Thursday after she grabbed a phone from a woman’s hand. The victim was attempting to purchase a dress from the Sandal Factory in Key Largo. The suspect, 25-year-old Marcella Rios, was working at the store.

Just before noon, the victim told deputies she was attempting to buy the dress when she got into a dispute with two of the women working in the store. The dispute started when she asked for the local’s discount but could not produce proof she lived there because she is a seasonal resident. The dispute escalated and, when she asked for their names so she could file a complaint about them, they refused to identify themselves. She said she took out her phone to take a photo of them and Rios grabbed the phone from her. She was finally able to retrieve her phone. She then took a picture of the two women and left the store, calling the Sheriff’s Office to report the incident.

Rios was placed under arrest for Robbery by Sudden Snatching and Theft and she was booked into jail.
