Take Stock in Children Monroe Expands Reach, Welcoming Record Number of New Scholars

Monroe County, FL – March 8, 2024 – Take Stock in Children of Monroe County (Take Stock Monroe) is excited to announce that its flagship scholarship program has grown significantly. With the addition of 13 new eligible students from Key Largo to Key West, Take Stock Monroe has welcomed 107 new students into the program this year alone—a record number of new scholars that brings the total number of Take Stock students served to a record high of 350 scholars!

Take Stock Monroe continues to break barriers in education by providing mentorship and scholarships to deserving young scholars who meet specific academic and economic eligibility criteria. With a commitment to fostering future success, Take Stock scholars are four times more likely to earn a college degree or career certificate compared to their non-Take Stock peers.

“We congratulate the thirteen newest Take Stock scholars,” said executive director Chuck Licis-Masson. “Our volunteer mentors are eager to begin meeting with our new scholars each week, to help guide and support them through middle and high school, and to graduate college career ready!”

The program’s proven effectiveness is a beacon of hope in Monroe County, offering students the opportunity to attend and graduate from a Florida public college or university of their choice, with relatively little debt, thanks to a state-matched Florida Prepaid tuition scholarship from Take Stock Monro
