The Story of Flagler’s Yacht, Bananas and Israel is Topic at Keys History & Discovery Center

Islamorada, FL – Keys History & Discovery Center Presents…Flagler’s Yacht, Bananas and the State of Israel on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Keys History & Discovery Center. Doors open at 5 p.m., presentation begins at 6 p.m.

Flagler era expert John Blades, Executive Director Emeritus of the Flagler Museum, will explain how without the help of a Banana King, the partitioning of Palestine and the establishment of the State of Israel might have never been possible. And, without Henry Flagler’s yacht, there might never have been at Banana King.

Discover how a very ambitious banana trader used Flagler’s former yacht to become the most powerful figure in the fruit trade and ultimately the one person who could tip the balance of the United Nations’ vote in favor of partitioning Palestine, making possible the founding of the State of Israel.

The Discovery Center is in Islamorada, MM 82, located at the Islander Resort. The Center is open Thursdays through Sundays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. General admission is $12.
