Man riding stolen motorcycle arrested

An 18-year-old Tavernier man riding a stolen motorcycle was arrested after he was stopped for speeding and eluding deputies on U.S. 1 early Wednesday morning.

Saul Arrazcaeta was charged with grand theft, fleeing from law enforcement and having no valid license.

Deputy Jason Farr clocked Arrazcaeta traveling 83 mph at Mile Marker 105 in Key Largo about 4:15 a.m. and attempted a traffic stop, but Arrazcaeta did not stop right away, finally pulling into Keys Lake Villas apartments. He told Deputy Farr that the highway was too congested during the day to speed, so he chose speed at night.

Arrazcaeta changed his story twice as to how he came to be in possession of a red, Yamaha motorcycle reported stolen out of Miami.

A loaded 9mm handgun magazine was found in one of his pockets. A loaded Glock handgun was later found near the apartment where Arrazcaeta had pulled over. He said he tossed the gun down for fear of being shot.

Arrazcaeta was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center on Plantation Key.
