Man arrested in domestic incident

A 24-year-old Stock Island man accused of fighting with another family member was arrested early Thursday morning.

Jecuri Sala was charged with aggravated domestic battery, battery and aggravated assault.

Deputy John Allen responded to 12th Avenue and Cross Street to find Lower Keys Deputy Anthony Lopez in the street with six people who were all screaming at each other. Other deputies also arrived on the scene. Deputy Allen interviewed five people.

Witness accounts of what spurred the incident vary, but reports indicate the fight started shortly before 6 a.m. after two women in the house began arguing. This awoke others. Tempers flared and Sala is accused of putting one family member in a headlock before picking up toy billy club and chasing him, threatening to kill him.

One woman at the scene told deputies she thought she was struck in the back of the head with a brick, but wasn’t sure. She declined medical transport. One woman reported that another female yelled at her and threatened her with a knife and then threw the knife at her. A knife was later recovered by deputies, as well as the toy billy club. Both were placed into evidence.

Sala had injuries to his face and was bleeding from the nose, but he was unsure what hit in the face or who caused his injury. Other people at the house who were present apparently left before deputies arrived.

He was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island.
