Letter to the Editor / LEGITIMACY – On Martin Luther King Day

Roger C. Kostmayer

If you have good reasons to believe Russia and Putin improperly impacted the 2016 US Presidential election (as Representative John Lewis does), and if you have good reasons to believe that FBI Directer Comey used a partisan double standard that impacted the results of the 2016 Presidential election (as Representative John Lewis does), it is unfortunate, but you have every right to believe and, perhaps the responsibility, to say (as Representative John Lewis did) that Trump’s election did not conform to the rules of a free and fair election and is, therefor, illegitimate.
It’s ironic that the subject of this legitimacy crisis continued to call President Obama illegitimate for the office of President for 5 years after birth certificate proof was made public showing President Obama was born in the USA, and it was Trump who prophetically claimed that the 2016 election was “rigged”.
But we must not let outrageous, salacious or libelous tweets (about Representative John Lewis) or other sleight of hand distract us from the serious bipartisan investigation of these two issues that affect our democracy and international relations.  These investigations will help the American people determine the legitimacy of the 2016 election.
