FloatOber Challenge

Attached are photos of some of the young Monroe County residents who graduated from the 2019 Keys2swim self-rescue swim lessons and examples of what you can submit as part of FloatOber.

(Monroe County, Fla.) – The Florida Keys Drowning Prevention Task Force in partnership with Keys2swim, the Keys Health Ready Coalition, and the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County are inviting residents to participate in in the FloatOber Challenge, or the October Float Challenge.  To participate in the challenge, during the month of October, parents and caregivers are invited to submit photos of their kids or grandkids floating on their backs without the assistance of a floatation device.  Tag these photos with #floatober on Facebook and Instagram.

This initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of having your child learn the necessary aquatic skills to survive an accidental water exposure. Drowning is the leading cause of death in children ages 1- 4. Monroe County has among the highest drowning rates per capita in the state of Florida.   With the Keys2swim program, young Monroe County residents are given self-rescue swim lessons to infants, toddlers and young children utilizing a swim-float-swim technique.  To learn more about this program, visit keys2swim.com or visit the Florida Keys Drowning Prevention Task Force Facebook page.
