Trees Planted To Honor Sgt. Eric Biskup

Two new trees now grace Bayview Park in honor of Sgt. Eric Biskup, who succumbed to cancer this month at the age of 49.

In an effort spearheaded by City Commissioner Sam Kaufman, the City’s Community Services Department planted a rare cinnamon bark tree and a jatropha tree. A new bench was installed between the trees.

Rob Crider, owner of Just Keys Trees, Inc. generously donated the cinnamon bark tree.

“It’s appropriate that it’s right across from the police department,” said Chief Donie Lee. “It’s a place where we can come and sit for a moment and remember how Eric touched our lives.”

Each tree had its own dedication, and the jatropha tree was dedicated on Monday, which is the Jewish Arbor Day. Rabbi Yaakov Zucker, who performed the first dedication, explained that the holiday — Tu BiShvat – is a day to plant trees and celebrate ecological awareness.

Rev. Steve Torrence performed the second tree dedication on Tuesday.

Sgt. Biskup’s family, friends and colleagues are grateful at the generous outpouring from the community.
