Takes Stock in Children is ‘model program for Florida’
Monroe County’s Take Stock in Children program has won the state’s highest award: The Excellence in Program Management for having the highest score on the Balanced Scorecard.
“Monroe’s Take Stock in Children program is the model program for Florida,” said Madeline Pumariega, president of Take Stock Florida said Friday in Key West.
Pumariega presented Leslie Holmes, TSIC county coordinator, and her team with the award.
“We have 244 active students in 11 different schools across the county,” according to Holmes. “And, we have identified a few more students who will qualify when their grades improve during this grading period.”
To receive recognition, a local program must have a comprehensive total “Outstanding” scorecard. Success is measured in seven areas, of which Monroe County scored “Outstanding” in each: Percent of students recruited in grades 6-9, distribution of students by type, mentor match rate, mentor contacts, maintaining good data, maintaining good finances and showing growth.
“We spent yesterday (Thursday) with Madeline and her staff, sharing best practices from around the state,” said John Padget, president of the Monroe County Education Foundation, the local agency for TSIC. “Madeline also attended the regular monthly meeting of the board of MCEF. “We are very proud of the accomplishments of the our Take Stock in Children program and look forward to another successful year.”
Take Stock is ready to build its mentor reserve corps, to replace mentors who move away or who are no longer able to serve. TSIC will culminate its annual Donors’ Form at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Tennessee Williams Theater.
