Woman arrested for fleeing

A 35-year-old Key West, Florida woman driving erratically on Big Pine Key and fleeing from the Sheriff’s Office as arrested Saturday.

Darla Rachel Vidal was charged with fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office observed Vidal driving a VW sedan on the grass at a high rate of speed on Key Deer Boulevard at approximately 2:25 p.m. She did not stop and continued to swerve from the road and back to the grass. At one point she waved her middle finger at the Deputy attempting to pull her over. She nearly struck a Key deer before finally stopping on Pensacola Road.

Vidal ran toward the Sheriff’s Office patrol car screaming that she hates police while refusing orders to stop. She told the Deputy to shoot her while continuing to scream while pulling away and resisting during attempts to place her in custody.

Drunken man arrested for attempted robbery/disorderly conduct

A 36-year-old Summerland Key, Florida man was arrested Sunday after attempting to take cash from a Circle K cash register while yelling and screaming at patrons in the store on Saturday.

Nicholas Elgin Merkey was charged with attempted robbery and disorderly conduct.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the Circle K on Summerland Key at approximately 5 p.m. An employee stated Merkey entered the store drunk, was screaming at patrons, and refused to leave. Merkey then went behind the counter and attempted to take money out of the cash register. Security video documented the incident.

Merkey left before the Sheriff’s Office arrived, but he was later found and arrested.
