Unlicensed Contractors Beware

During a contractors’ informational meeting Tuesday at Key West City Hall, Assistant State Attorney Chris Webber warned that unlicensed contractors face felony charges when operating illegally during a disaster. The State of Florida has passed legislation that bumps the usual misdemeanor charges for contracting without a license to a felony.

The Key West Building Department held a contractors’ meeting Tuesday to facilitate the legal emergency repairs in the city. Nearly 100 people attended the meeting.

The Building Department is open daily from 7:30 until 4 p.m. at the City Hall service desk, 1300 White Street. They are on hand to issue emergency repair permits only. Permitting fees are waived for residents.
