Two arrested for vehicle burglary

Two Key West men were arrested Friday for breaking into a vehicle parked on Stock Island.

Jason Eric Lee, 48, and George Ratton Twyman, 41, were both charged with burglary, larceny and property damage.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified on Aug. 2. The incident occurred at a residence on 9th Street.

The vehicle was a 2019 rental Kia. One of its windows, valued at approximately $400, was shattered. One of its tires was slashed. A bag of laundry and assorted personal items with a total approximate value of $300 was stolen.

Detective Ken Fricke spoke to several neighbors, one of whom took a picture of a suspect vehicle that had been parked at the residence. They provided a license plate number. Another neighbor provided security video footage.

One of the security videos showed both Lee and Twyman exiting a white GMC pickup truck at the residence. The videos showed Twyman breaking the window with a center punch device and Lee removing the laundry bag. A center punch is a device used to easily break vehicle windows. They are commonly sold for use in emergencies.

The GMC truck in the video was registered to Twyman. The truck was found parked at residence on Pearlman Court in Key West on Aug. 22. Damage to the truck and accessories on the truck matched the truck seen in the video. A search warrant for the truck was obtained and a center punch device was found in the truck as well as a ball cap matching the hat worn by the suspect in the video.

Lee is seen in the video placing the laundry bag in the GMC pickup truck. The GMC truck is then seen driving away from camera view.

Both Lee and Twyman were arrested on Friday.
