Truman Waterfront Ribbon Cutting and Egg Hunt

Mayor Craig Cates the City Commission, and the City of Key West invite the community to gather for a very special ribbon cutting ceremony for the Truman Waterfront Park’s Splash and Play area. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31st at the Truman Waterfront Park.

Immediately following, families will enjoy exploring the play area with a community Easter egg hunt, sponsored by Charley Toppino & Sons, Inc.

The opening of this play area with its water feature, covered pavilion and large expanse of inviting green space marks the near completion of the full first phase of park development.

“This is a very exciting day that’s been 20 years in the making,” said Key West Mayor Craig Cates. “We are cutting the ribbon on an unparalleled park that will serve our community and our visitors for generations to come. What better way to kick it off than with a family egg hunt!”

The park is the reincarnation of Navy property that was deeded to the City as part of the 1998 Base Reuse and Closure process. This first phase of redevelopment included re-routing the access road to Ft. Zachary Taylor State Park and the construction of the amphitheater. The amphitheater is very near completion, and has already hosted several shows.
