Toddler dies in pool incident

A 2-year-old San Jose, California girl was pulled from the bottom of a pool Friday and was later pronounced dead at Fishermen’s Hospital.

Detectives do not suspect foul play in the incident.

Autopsy results are pending.

Multiple Deputies responded to the vacation rental home on the 1000 block of 100th Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. to find two people already performing CPR on the child.

Those good Samaritans were a doctor and firefighter paramedic also on vacation. They are not related to the victim. They were across the canal at a different rental home and heard yells for help. The doctor jumped in the canal and swam to the residence. The visiting firefighter quickly traversed the canal in a boat.

Marathon Fire Rescue crews took over lifesaving efforts and transported the child to the hospital where a doctor pronounced the child dead.

Initial reports are that a family member was applying sunscreen to other children inside the rental home when other family members found the child at the bottom of the pool and pulled her out.
