THE LEGENDARY “GEORGIA McBRIDE” ENDS SOON!

Only a few performances remain of the legendary production of “The Legend of Georgia McBride” by Matthew Lopez at the Waterfront Playhouse. Closing night is Saturday, May 26th.

KONK Life called the show, “the funniest show of the season…the jewel in the crown of a highly successful season,” and Key West Weekly said the show was “hilarious and heartfelt…do not miss!” The most frequent comment as audiences are leaving that theater is, “I can’t wait to come and see it again,” and indeed, there have been numerous repeat viewings.

This comedy with music is about Casey, a young unemployed Elvis impersonator who is in need of a quick buck. In desperation, he takes up a job offer from drag queen diva Miss Tracy Mills, after her wild drag partner passes out drunk at a night’s cabaret performance. Turns out Casey is a natural, and soon he’s decked out in sequins and heels and lip-syncing Shania Twain with the best of them. However, he’s kept his new job secret from his wife Jo, who’s starting to wonder about her husband’s newly unleashed feminine side.

Directed by the Waterfront’s artistic director (in his final production with the Waterfront), the play stars the legendary Christopher Peterson in a tour-de-force performance as Miss Tracy Mills. New York actor Nate Janis also turns in a tour-de-force performance as Casey, the unintentional  drag star. Simoné Elizabeth Bart plays his beautiful wife, Jo. Phillip Cole White plays the dual roles of the wild drag star, Rexy and then Jason, a dude’s dude. Or is he? Rounding out the cast is John Reynolds, the good old boy who owns Cleo’s, the club where all the onstage and off stage action takes place.

The cast has earned universal praise with the Key West Weekly saying, “The cast’s outstanding comic timing and overall harmony make it the perfect production cocktail, easy to devour and delightfully uplifting.”

Adding to the fun of the evening are full-blown drag numbers performed to the music of iconic ladies of show biz, disco, country rock and…French cabaret. Don’t ask. The show ends with a glorious finale performed by all of the characters that has audiences leaping to their feet with cheers.

Michael Boyer has created backstage and onstage world of Cleo’s bar. John Jaworski designed the lighting, Benn Pegg sound, Carmen Rodriguez props and Danny Weathers the music. Annie Miners (also assistant director) and Peggy Montgomery act as the busy dressers. Trish Manley is in charge of all the action as stage manager.

The costume design has taken a village. Fortunately the many costumes will come from designs by Sushi AND Christopher Peterson AND Carmen Rodriguez.

All performances are at 8 PM. The production is sponsored by Ocean Grill Bar and Restaurant. The 2017/18 season is sponsored by Wodu Media, Digital Island Media and Royal Furniture.

Tickets are $45 and are available at www.waterfrontplayhouse.org or at 305-294-5015. In addition to our discounted Friday nights, there will be ticket deals available throughout the run. Keep an eye on the Waterfront’s website, as well as our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for more info.
