Students Visit City Hall

The City of Key West on Wednesday was happy to welcome students from the Montessori Children’s School to City Hall.

Mayor Teri Johnston welcomed the group of first through sixth graders and talked about the history of the building, which served as a school for nearly a century.

They then heard from Sustainability Coordinator Alison Higgins about the importance of recycling and from Ryan Stachurski about bicycle safety.

City Manager Al Childress explained his role in the City and answered questions. After that, Special Project Coordinator Dorian Patton took the students to the service center side of the building to the Flag Retirement Box, donated by volunteer Key West Ambassadors. He explained that people can deposit the flags at City Hall so they can be disposed of honorably.
