Speeding motorist arrested for fleeing

A 48-year-old Marathon, Florida man was arrested Saturday after fleeing from the Sheriff’s Office on U.S. 1.

Hector Adolfo Rodriguez was charged with fleeing and eluding.

The Sheriff’s Office observed Rodriguez traveling 87 mph in a 55 mph zone in a southbound Mercedes SUV near Mile Marker 71 at approximately 8:25 p.m. Rodriguez failed to stop for the Sheriff’s Office, continued southbound and turned into  Fiesta Key RV Resort & Marina a high rate of speed whereupon he finally stopped. Rodriguez was taken to jail.


Man cited for wildlife violations

Christopher Scott Jones, 38, of Yalaha, Florida was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation Friday for possessing an undersized lobster and an out-of-season stone crab.

Upper Keys Marine Deputy Nelson Sanchez was conducting resource checks at approximately 3:12 p.m. near the Whale Harbor Channel when he observed several subjects in possession of the lobster and stone crab. Jones stated he caught the lobster and stone crab.
