Short Answers

TOUGH SPOT

Dear Short Answers:
I know my husband is cheating on me even though he denies it. How do I figure out if it’s serious? I don’t want to break up.
Annie

Dear Annie:
If there is someone waiting in the wings, truth and reconciliation are hard to get to — and we believe truth is an essential step in this process.  Tell him the relationship isn’t working for you and you need to talk. If he won’t hear you, the outlook isn’t good. Sorry.

NOT ALL INTERNET GENIUSES ARE BILL OR MARK

Dear Short Answers:
My son is an Internet genius or at least that’s the way it seems to me. He’s decided that he wants to join a start-up Internet firm that pays less than nothing but could be a fortune in stock if it succeeds. But to do this, he has decided NOT to go to college and claims that half the Internet millionaires in the world never went to college and for his career, it’s a huge waste of time. I disagree but maybe I’m out of touch and old-fashioned. What do you think?
Worried

Dear Worried:
Good for both of you! Good for him for being up for the risk — and good for you for worrying about the downside. We are crazy committed to higher education but if he doesn’t want to go, it surely is a waste, now. Stop arguing and get him to agree to a serious review of his options in a year’s time.

NUNYA

Dear Short Answers:
There is a new woman at work who dresses in a very inappropriate way. The problem is that she dresses TOO WELL!! I work in a casual work environment and she dresses in fancy designer suits and expensive shoes. She’s making the rest of us girls look like slobs. How do I tell her in a nice way to tone it down?
Jeans Girl

Dear Girl:
You can choose your own clothes but you don’t get to choose hers.

ARE YOU KIDDING?

Dear Short Answers:
If you go to a dinner party and the food is really bad, I mean REALLY REALLY bad. How do you handle it when you get invited over again? Do you eat before and pretend you’re not hungry? Or make up an excuse not to go. Because trust me, there is no way that I’m putting that food in my mouth again!!!
Won’t Eat It

Dear Won’t:
We think dinner parties are entirely about the PARTY. If you think it’s about the food — we suggest you skip the invites. Everyone will be relieved.

SAME GOES FOR KIDS

Dear Short Answers:
How many dogs are too many?  My partner and I disagree.
Love Those Dogs

Dear Love
We tend to think that the number of dogs per household should not exceed the number of adults.  But we could be persuaded.
