Rescue Tails / Kaia & Bones

Thanks to adoptive parents, Erin and Dave, the lives of dogs Kaia and Bones took turns for the very best.

In 2014, Kaia (aka Grunt) was picked up as a stray the first time, followed by three more times, as she was the consummate escape artist, in part due to her anxiety when left alone. She eventually stayed with us at the Florida Keys SPCA permanently. At the shelter, we had to house her in a play yard with a roof to prevent her from climbing out. We tried sending her to a foster home in the hopes that she would be happier and not so eager to run. Within the first 24 hours, she had found a way out and, to our amazement, appeared to be headed back to the shelter. She was quite the challenge but oh, so sweet! When Erin came to the shelter and met her, Kaia’s days with us came to an end. Erin fell for her and took her home. She’s been with her ever since.

Bones was abandoned at a truck stop on the mainland, along with his pal, Bucky. A kind person brought them home to Key West and kept both dogs for a few months until recently, when the person had to move and brought them to us. Fortunately, Bucky found a wonderful home, leaving Bones to await his chance. That chance came when Erin and Dave came to the shelter to inquire about our foster program. Little did they know they would be leaving with a dog. Love can happen instantaneously, and this love affair was a four-way! Bones left with his new family and a beautiful new girlfriend, Kaia. He never looked back.

We believe Kaia and Bones have found their ways home at last! If you are interested in bringing a new member into your home, would like to donate, or get more information, please visit fkspca.org, or e-mail tammy@fkspca.org.
