REEF RELIEF ANNOUNCES NEW SPRING INTERNS

Reef Relief is excited to announce our 2024 spring conservation interns, Kara Jeffrey and Sydney Brazzle. They will be assisting with our community volunteer events, fundraising, campaigns, school visits, and spring break coral camp.

Kara Jeffrey, an Iowa native, graduated from Iowa State University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Ecology and Biology. Growing up, she traveled to the gulf coast during the summer to pursue her passion for marine science and participated in camps where she learned about sea turtle conservation and oceanography. She has an array of experience in conservation education, as well as marine animal rehabilitation. Kara’s passion for marine conservation began during her internship at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium in Sarasota, FL. During this time, she gained experience in the education department as well as the sea turtle hospital. Most recently, she completed an internship at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in Naples, where she worked in the wildlife rehabilitation hospital taking care of an array of birds, mammals, and reptiles. Kara is excited to bring her passion to this new role as a Conservation Intern, and to learn more about environmental advocacy.

Sydney Brazzle grew up in California and graduated from Iowa State University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Ecology and a minor in Public Relations. Sydney is passionate about conservation efforts that can serve to benefit both people and wildlife in their continuously changing ecosystems. She has participated in several internships including the Humane Society of the United States where she assisted the Wildlife Protection Department with writing education material pertaining to wildlife protection issues. She furthered her wildlife conservation studies and expanded her knowledge on various ecosystems while studying abroad in Australia, Africa, and Turks and Caicos. In these places, Sydney primarily researched the flora and fauna of the surrounding areas along with marine protected areas. She is very excited for the opportunity to work as a conservation intern with Reef Relief, and work with the community to advocate for coral conservation.
