New Director of Community Health Improvement & Planning Announcement

The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County recently welcomed a new Division Director into the fold. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Alison Kerr, MPH, Director of Community Health Improvement and Planning. In her current role, she supervises the following programs: Community Health, Tobacco Prevention, Health Disparities, Health Equities, and Vital Statistics. She directs the administration of performance management, the strategic plan, and quality improvement. Kerr is also responsible for leading staff and activities to achieve and sustain the agency’s accreditation with the Public Health Accreditation Board. As spokesperson for the health department, Kerr also helps to respond to media inquiries and write press releases, coordinate weekly radio interviews, and cover topics and presentations on a variety of public health topics affecting Monroe County.

Kerr has worked for the department since March 2013, serving in various capacities. She has served as the Community Health Planning Manager for the department. Kerr oversaw and facilitated the county’s Community Health Assessments; Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP; monroe.flhealth.gov/chip); Healthy Babies, Injury Prevention, Bicycle Safety, and Communications programs.  

She is active in the community and currently serves as President for Zonta Club of Key West, a not-for-profit organization that serves to empower women through service, advocacy, and health improvement. She serves as co-founder and board member for the Florida Keys Drowning Prevention Task Force, and serves on the City of Key West’s Sustainability Advisory Board. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Southern California and a Master of Public Health in Environmental and Occupational Health from Florida International University. Along with her husband, Manny, she enjoys making the Florida Keys her home with her cat, Luna. She enjoys exercising and commuting to work by bike.
