Motorist arrested after fleeing from Deputy

A 30-year-old Big Pine Key motorist was arrested Friday after fleeing from a Deputy on U.S. 1.

William Dodge Hahner was charged with fleeing and eluding, DUI, failure to register a motor vehicle and attaching a license plate not assigned to the proper vehicle.

Deputy Aaron Roddy was northbound on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 16 at approximately 2:35 a.m. when he observed a vehicle rapidly approaching from the rear. The speeding vehicle passed Deputy Roddy in the southbound lane.

Deputy Roddy turned on his lights and sirens and noted he had to reach speeds of 80 mph to catch up to the vehicle. The vehicle continued to speed away from Roddy before turning onto South Point Drive. The suspect driver turned off all the vehicle’s lights.

Deputy Roddy got behind the Audi A4 and ordered the driver, later identified as Hahner, to turn off the ignition.

Hahner was taken to jail.
