Monroe County Proclaims January as Human Trafficking Awareness & Prevention Month

MONROE COUNTY, FL – Monroe County Mayor Michelle Coldiron and the Board of County Commissioners proclaimed January 2021 as Monroe County Human Trafficking and Prevention Month at today’s regularly scheduled meeting. Members from Keys to Be the Change accepted the proclamation stating that human trafficking is a nationwide issue and anyone can become a victim of trafficking. While women and girls are the primary victims, traffickers usually target individuals who are vulnerable to exploitation and face many barriers in reporting what has happened to them.

“We support Keys to Be the Change in its efforts to prevent human trafficking and support victims and survivors,” said Coldiron.
