Man operating illegal recycling scheme arrested 

A Marathon man operating a recycling yard was arrested Tuesday after a Sheriff’s Office investigation found he was not documenting transactions as required by law.

Ihosvany Almaguer, 35, of Keys Recycling on 107th Street, was charged with failing to properly document scrap metal purchases.

The Sheriff’s Office worked with the State Attorney’s Office on the case.

Detectives determined that on three scrap aluminum sales to Keys Recycling between June and July that Almaguer failed to document a litany of things as required by law, such as but not limited to: the time of the transaction, the driver’s license or ID of the customer, the date of birth of customer, address the of the customer, the vehicle description of the customer as well as the customer’s demographics that includes their gender, approximate weight, height, hair color, eye color, and race. The suspect also failed to electronically file any transactions as is required by law for secondary metals recycling businesses.

These examples of documentation are required in an effort to curb the illegal sale/purchase of stolen materials.

A warrant was issued for Almaguer’s arrest and he was booked into jail on Tuesday.
