Man dies snorkeling

An Atlanta, Georgia man died while snorkeling offshore of Key Largo Sunday.

The 39 year old victim was on a snorkeling trip on board the vessel Sundowner III at White Banks Reef. Just after 1 p.m., he was in the water when he yelled for help. Crewmembers on the boat jumped into the water and pulled  him on board the boat. He was unresponsive and not breathing so they began performing CPR.

He was brought back to shore and then transported to Mariner’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Detectives are withholding his name from release until they can notify his next of kin.

Bay Point man charged with multiple felony warrants

A Bay Point man was arrested today on a traffic stop. A check on his name revealed numerous outstanding warrants from Florida and from other states.

Deputy Richard Wang was on Big Coppitt Key when he saw a black Jeep driven by 44 year old Thomas Andrews pass a stopped school bus that was picking up children at a bus stop. When he stopped the Jeep, Andrews told him he didn’t stop for the school bus because another driver was following him too closely and he was afraid he would get rear-ended. He also told Deputy Wang he did not have a valid driver’s license.

A check of Andrews name through computers revealed he had numerous outstanding warrants for his arrest in Florida and in other states. He is wanted in Polk County, Florida for fraud and grand theft; he is wanted in Ohio and Michigan for failure to appear in court and he is also wanted in Kentucky for unknown charges.

Andrews was placed under arrest and he was booked into jail. All of the outstanding warrants indicated the states would extradite him on the charges.
