Lower Keys Deputy Shannon O’Connell spotted the suspect vehicle at 2:42 a.m. at Mile Marker 24 on U.S. 1. She stopped the vehicle at Mile Marker 29.5. One of the passengers, later identified as Whited, said that he knew why they were stopped and that the vehicle was stolen. Whited stated he stole the vehicle. Sgt. Evan Calhoun detained Whited. The driver stated he had no idea the vehicle was stolen. The driver stated Whited had gone to Alabama about two days ago and returned with the SUV.
