Health Department Hosts HIV/AIDS 501 Training

Yesterday, April 26, the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County hosted an HIV/AIDS 501 training, counseling, linkage to care, and basic skills workshop at the Gato Building in Key West.  Speakers included facilitator, Clayton Lopez, HIV Early Intervention Consultant for the department, Mara Michniewicz, Statewide HIV/AIDS Prevention Program Manager, and Dr. Jerry Jackson, MD for the department and PreP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) Advocate.   Trained counselors are certified to provide confidential HIV testing, community education, and outreach.  Thanks to the HIV Early Intervention and Prevention Training consultants and skilled prevention counselors, the slow-down of this epidemic is looking promising.  For more information and if you are interested in becoming a counselor or getting tested for HIV, visitMonroe.flhealth.gov or call 305-676-3847.
