Man arrested for fleeing on U.S. 1

A 34-year-old Homestead man who didn’t stop for a Deputy in the Upper Keys was arrested early Thursday morning.

Jacob Dieugrand was charged with fleeing and eluding.

Deputy Joel Torres was conducting stationary speed enforcement at Mile Marker 104 when he saw a southbound Toyota Corolla® traveling 74 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Deputy Torres activated his lights and sirens and caught up to the vehicle at Mile Marker 103 whereupon the Toyota slowed to 50 mph then accelerated to 70 mph. Deputy Torres was now directly behind the Toyota.

Deputies Jason Farr and Jaime Miller joined Deputy Torres at Mile Marker 100. The Toyota changed lanes multiple times and attempted to turn onto a side street, but was unable to due to traffic.

The Toyota stopped at Mile Marker 99. The driver, identified as Dieugrand, taken into custody without incident.

Dieugrand stated he was “scared of trucks” and added that he didn’t see the lights and sirens when asked why he didn’t stop.

Dieugrand was taken to jail.
