Man arrested for battery

A 35-year-old Key West Harbor liveaboard was arrested Wednesday night for hitting another liveaboard in the head with a wrench who was then airlifted.

Joshua James Hallock of Key West was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Deputies William Guerra and Timothy Oggeri responded to Coast Guard Sector Key West headquarters about 10 p.m. regarding a battery that occurred on a 100-foot cruiser. Key West Police and the Coast Guard were first on scene and brought both the suspect, identified as Hallock, and the victim, identified as Christopher Robert Greer, 32, formerly of Big Coppitt Key, back the Coast Guard Station.

Greer was being treated by paramedics. Greer stated that Hallock hit him with a wrench as he was cooking dinner for unknown reasons, adding that Hallock had been drinking. Greer stated he was hit multiple times as he tried to block the blows. The injuries to Greer were consistent with his statements that he tried blocking Hallock’s swings with the wrench.

Greer was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island with severe head and face trauma. He was then airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center.

Hallock stated he had been living on the vessel as a tenant for about eight months and the owner of the vessel (who is currently out-of-town) recently invited Greer to stay on the vessel as a guest. Hallock stated they do not get along and that Greer attacked him. He admitted to hitting Hallock with the wrench, but said he couldn’t remember if Greer struck him.

Hallock was taken to jail.
