Man arrested for dumping boat

A 49-year-old man was arrested Monday for dumping an 18-foot boat on the side of 20th Street in Marathon.

Harry Elmer Lebo of Marathon was charged with illegal dumping and resisting arrest without violence.

Deputy Edward Swogger responded to 20th Street where he found two witnesses. The man and woman told Deputy Swogger they saw a man driving a forklift, later identified as Lebo, approached with a boat on the forks. The witnesses said the forklift operator dumped the boat on the shoulder of the roadway. When the witnesses asked why the boat was being dumped there, he replied, “This is not my property and it’s not my boat, so I don’t care.”

The witnesses were about to provide a detailed description of the suspect. Deputy Swogger noted the boat was about 18-feet long and was miscellaneous trash and debris inside the hull.

Deputy Swogger located several forklifts near the area and further investigation led him to Lebo, who was positively identified by the two witnesses.

When Deputy Swogger and Deputy William Daniels went to arrest Lebo, he resisted by pulling away from the deputies.

He was taken to jail.
