Mailed Meth Arrest

An Arizona man was arrested in Key West after mailing himself a party package.

On Wednesday, Key West Police Officers responded to a local hotel in reference to a package that contained suspected drugs. The package was addressed to the hotel, and had a return address with the name Robert Bare. An employee opened the package, which contained crystal methamphetamine, a smoking pipe, and socks.

Hotel management called the police. The Special Investigations Unit was notified and took over the investigation. When the guest came to pick up the package, an undercover detective posing as a hotel manager provided it to him. After Bare took the package, he was stopped by undercover detectives in the hotel’s lobby. Following a brief struggle, he was taken into custody.

Bare, 24, admitted that he mailed the package containing methamphetamine to himself at the hotel because he was in town to party. Bare said he has never used methamphetamine before but wanted to try it. Bare was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
