KWPD Boat Safety Operation

In the early hours of March 8th, the Key West Police Department’s Marine Unit conducted a vessel regulation safety operation in the waters surrounding Key West.

The department has been receiving numerous complaints of anchored vessels without proper lighting as well as complaints of boats underway without lights.

The Marine Unit issued 20 citations for improper vessel safety regulations.

A reminder to all boaters: state statute requires that all vessels be equipped with properly serviceable lights and shapes required by the navigation rules.
