Electrocution in the Lower Keys

One man was killed and a second man was airlifted to Miami after they were electrocuted while working today.

The two men worked in landscaping for Blue Island Landscaping. They were on a job site on Cannon Royal Drive, Shark Key, at the 11 mile marker of Highway U.S. One. According to reports, they were taking down an extension ladder just before 3 p.m. after trimming a palm tree and they hit an electrical line with the ladder.

There were reportedly two doctors on a nearby property who assisted with treating the men while paramedics and deputies were on their way. One of the victims,  29 year old Luis Eduardo Graterol Gonzalez of Big Coppitt Key was transported to Lower Keys Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other man, Skylar Carron Smith, was airlifted by Trauma Star to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami where he is reportedly stable.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the case.
