KEY WEST ZIKA SUMMIT

July 18, 2016 – The Key West Zika Summit will take place on July, 29th from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the FKAA Board Room, 1100 Kennedy Drive.

This free event will be comprised of local and global sustainability experts including City, County and State government leaders. The presentations will focus on rainwater collection, cistern restoration, septic to cistern conversion, the Zika virus and mosquito mitigation. Discussed will be greenhouse gases, rising sea levels, ocean acidification and the possible “tipping point” for the earth due to global warming.

The FKAA (Julie Cheon), the Monroe County Health Department (Bill Brookman) and ARCSA professionals will describe how to safely collect and store rainwater for household and landscape use. Discussion will include how to restore existing cisterns and the conversion of septic tanks. FKAA will also share how residents can earn a $500 credit by cistern restoration or septic tank conversion.

Finally, due to the rise in threat of Zika virus, from Mosquito Control’s (Michael Doyle) will give the latest up-dates for combatting Zika.

Richard C. Lightner III, spokesman advocate from “LAND-AIR-SEA Global Sustainability Alliance” is the event organizer. He states that four more half-day Sustainability Summits are scheduled for August in Key West, September in Marathon, November on Merritt Island and December 5th Nevada. This lecture series has gained national attention. The presenters have been asked to speak at the National Convention of the American Rainwater Collection Systems Association in Las Vegas.
