Key West Sunrise Rotary donates $26,000 to Take Stock in Children

Key West Sunrise Rotary became the largest club donor in the Lower and Middle Keys to Take Stock in Children with a check for $26,000 to fund college scholarships. Take Stock Coordinator Chuck Licis, success coach Lindsey Moore and Key West High School seniors Emily Girard and Nick Piraino accepted the check from Sunrise Rotary President Trice Denny. State matching funds increase the value of the donation to $52,000.

Take Stock in Children is a nonprofit organization seeking to break the cycle of poverty for low-income, academically qualified students. It offers opportunities for a post-secondary education by providing college scholarships and mentors.

The Key West Sunrise Rotary Club in the Conch Republic, established in 1988, provides community service, supports charities and funds college scholarships through events including BrewFest and a golf tournament. The club meets on Fridays at 7 a.m. at the Marriott Beachside Hotel.
