City Manager Brian L. Barroso, Commissioner Monica Haskell, Vice Mayor Lissette Carey, Mayor Danise “DeeDee” Henriquez, Grant Manager Carolyn Sheldon, CDO Director Tina Burns, and Commissioners Donie Lee, Aaron Castillo, and Sam Kaufman. Commissioner Mary Lou Hoover was in attendance via Zoom.

Key West’s Housing and Community Development Director Tina Burns wants to remind the community that April is Fair Housing Month.

The month of April marks the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, which sought to eliminate discrimination in housing opportunities and to affirmatively further housing choices for all. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color national origin, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, and familial status.

Residents are reminded that federal and state laws are in place to protect you against housing discrimination. For more information about your fair housing rights, you can visit www.hud.gov.

In honor of the landmark act, Mayor Danise “DeeDee” Henriquez and the City Commission recognize the month of April as National Fair Housing Month. The City pledges to honor the legacy of the fair housing act while affirming our dedication to upholding fair housing principals year-round.
