Kentucky Derby Party Held at Keys History & Discovery Center

Islamorada, FL – More than 50 members and friends of Flagler’s Folly Society ventured to Keys History & Discovery Center to watch the 144th Kentucky Derby in the state-of-the-art theater. Guests were greeted with two of Islamorada’s finest horses ridden in by Richmond Arce and Sarah Ewald, and a traditional Derby favorite, a mint julep.

Flagler’s Folly Society (FFS) is the young philanthropic professionals group supporting Florida Keys History and Discovery Foundation and is co-chaired by Erin Muir, Emily Carter and Liz Huddleston.

In addition to the mint julep, Southern-themed appetizers were served. Playing a 50/50 raffle, guests made their best guess trying to pick the winning horse. Many chose Justify with Kristy Moss’s ticket landing her the lucky winner of $255.

With judging by Arce, prizes were given in several categories including:

Best Dressed Lady – Jennifer Nicoletti

Most Handsome Gentleman – Brett Ekblom

Best Matched Couple – Gus and Lauren Solis

Loveliest Hat – Phyllis Mitchell

Most Outrageous Hat – Sarah Cizmas

“Our inaugural Derby party was a fun-filled evening where great people got together to watch the most exciting two minutes in sports in an incredible theater setting,” said Muir. “Everyone turned out in their Derby-finest to try catch the eye of our host and contest judge, Richmond Arce, whose discerning taste and vibrant personality made for a lively prize presentation!”
