Joe Garcia Issues Statement on the Supreme Court Decision to Strike Down Texas Abortion Restrictions

Miami, FL- Today Former Congressman Joe Garcia issued a statement on the Supreme Court’s 5-3 decision to overturn a Texas law which placed unnecessary burdens on women’s health clinics that provide abortion services:

“Today’s decision is a huge step in the right direction,” said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. “Today’s ruling is cause for celebration, but there’s still a lot to be done to ensure all women have access safe reproductive care. Our work is not over until Republicans in Tallahassee and Washington stop their attacks on a woman’s right to choose and access to affordable care.”

Garcia has been recognized as a proven defender of women’s rights. In Congress, he voted to protect access to affordable reproductive care for low income women while his Republican opponent Carlos Curbelo voted to strip them of federal assistance and to defund Planned Parenthood. Curbelo’s longtime opposition to a woman’s right to choose even earned him a 15% lifetime rating with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
