FLORIDA KEYS COUNCIL OF THE ARTS DISTRIBUTES HURRICANE EMERGENCY FUNDS TO ARTISTS IN NEED

The Florida Keys Council of the Arts (FKCA) recently awarded $15,000 to 25 individual Key’s artists in need of immediate assistance. The Council, which received more than 100 applications requesting over $100,000, continues to fundraise so as to meet the needs of many more artists.

“We are hearing stories of hardships and the challenges many Keys’ artists, musicians and performing artists are facing,” said Executive Director Elizabeth Young. “These grants are giving people a little boost and will hopefully help replace needed tools and materials. To date, we’ve put checks in the hands of 25 extremely grateful local, full-time artists. And hope to fund more in round two next week.”

Donations to support FKCA relief efforts can be made online at www.keysarts.com. When making a donation, please type “Hurricane Fund” in the “Business/Organization” section on the donation page. Checks may be sent to The Florida Keys Council of the Arts, 1100 Simonton Street, Key West, Florida 33040. For more information, please call the FKCA offices at 305-295-4369.

This relief effort is funded in part by a generous gift from the Helmerich Trust.

The mission of the Arts Council is to advance the creative development and promotion of the arts in our cultural community by providing excellence in leadership, advocacy, education and financial support for artists, cultural organizations and citizens of Monroe County.
