Flags at Monore County Buildings Being Flown at Half-Staff in Honor and Remembrance for Massacre Victims in Orlando

Monroe County is flying the flags of the United States and the State of Florida at half-staff at all County buildings in honor and remembrance of the victims of the act of terror committed in Orlando early Sunday morning and as a directive by Gov. Rick Scott. The flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset Thursday.

Today also is the 100th celebration of Flag Day in the United States. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. In August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. The adoption of the American flag occurred on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
