FKSPCA:  RESCUE TAILS / “THREE ADORABLE PUPPIES”

About a week ago, an elderly gentleman stopped by the Marathon Campus of the FKSPCA with a kennel of three adorable puppies.

His dog, a female pit bull mix, had given birth up north to a litter of six puppies around Christmas.  In an effort to finance his travels down to the Florida Keys, he had sold three puppies along the way.

He had been stopping and staying overnight in Walmart parking lots as he drove south and his plan was to sell the remaining three puppies at a Walmart in the Florida Keys.  When he arrived in Marathon, he discovered that there is no Walmart there and he had just missed the local weekly flea market. Given the puppies’ age at that point, he did not want to hold them for another week and felt that it was best to surrender them to the FKSPCA.

We were happy to take them in.  The three puppies (two girls and one boy) were treated at the local Veterinary Hospital for dehydration and de-wormed.  None of them had health certificates or proper vaccinations.  And none had been given appropriate puppy food.

With one just week of good wholesome food and plenty of love from our staff, “Emmi,” “Skye,” and “Cyrus” quickly blossomed into healthy, happy pups! As you can imagine, these three lucky dogs didn’t have to wait long to find their forever families.  Each adorably puppy is now in a foster home as they wait for their upcoming spay and neuter surgeries when they can be turned over to their very excited forever families.

As you may know, the FKSPCA offers free and low-cost spay and neuter to all local pets to avoid any “surprise” litters.  But if you do find yourself with a litter of puppies, kittens, rabbits or any other pet, we will glad take them in and give them the proper medical and nutritional care they need to go out into the world a healthy, happy animal.
