Fire Academy Grads Earn Scholarships

The City of Key West and the Key West Fire Department want to give a huge shout out to the Key West High School Fire Academy graduates.

These hard-working graduates have earned scholarships that will allow them to continue their education and become professional firefighters.

Ezekial Phipps earned a $500 Danilo F. Martinez Scholarship. Garrett Hughes earned a $500 Richard B. and Nina Jo Wardlow Scholarship, a $500 Acevedo Perseverance Scholarship, and a $500 Frankie Gutierrez Scholarship. Aidan Garcia earned a $500 Richard B. and Nina Jo Wardlow Scholarship as well as a $500 Frankie Gutierrez Scholarship. Jose Pichardo was awarded the $2000 Moe Mosher Scholarship; the $1000 Arnold Dunlap Scholarship and a Bright Futures Medallion worth approximately $19,000 over four years. Ludmila Barrios earned a $500 Delta Laureate Sorority Scholarship.

“These seniors are very deserving, and we are very proud of them,” said Capt. Jason Barroso, who heads up the Academy. “I also want to give a big thank you the Mrs. Lydia Blanco-Estenoz for all her help to ensure this happened for our graduates!”
