Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Mayor Teri Johnston and the City Commission proclaimed October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Except for skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the United States,” reads the proclamation.

In 2021, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 49,290 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.
This annual campaign, promoted by leading nonprofit and government agencies, is aimed at increasing awareness of the disease.
Trish Worthington, an organizer of the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, accepted the proclamation. The walk raises money for breast cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services, with all proceeds sourced solely toward breast cancer funding.
In addition, Zonta is collecting funds for patients by selling a pink Key West Police patch, which is available on eBay.
