August 19th as Peter H. Batty Day

In recognition of all he has done for the city of Key West in his role on the Utility Board, Mayor Teri Johnston and the City Commission are poised to name August 19th as Peter H. Batty Day.

The proclamation, which will be read during tomorrow’s virtual commission meeting, notes that Batty was elected in 2005 and was appointed Chairman of the Utility Board in 2013.

The proclamation recognizes the many environmental initiatives he has seen to fruition, including earmarking BP settlement money for green projects like the Key West Solar Project and the Monroe County School District Stadium Lighting Project.

Batty led the Land Use Committee in its review of KEYS properties and facilities upgrades including:  the transfer of the Key West Diesel Plant to the City of Key West, the sale of the Key West Steam Plant, and several other important projects.
