Goombay Festival 2017

Every year for the Goombay Festival, the management of the Bourbon Street complex stages a backyard Caribbean Party with several local performers doing their thing all day and all night long. Enter the “Bourbon Street Gardens” right around the corner from the bar on Petronia Street. You’ll hear it before you see it!

Melvin Newton better known as “Toko Irie “performs his scintillating renditions of Caribbean and American favorites on the steel pan each evening. Some of the other performers are Captain Blues and Company (DJ Laurine) and Hebrew Edwards, long time lead singer of Crucial at the former Rum Runners Complex on Duval Street.   Come. Enjoy the “garden” and have a long cool drink or just dance to the entertainment.

Captain Blues and Company

Captain Blues, born and raised in the Orlando, Florida, can wrap his mellifluous voice around any style of music you might like to hear. He’s been a fixture on the Key West music scene for years, performing in every major club on Duval Street and over 15 consecutive years at Goombay. From Blues to Reggae, Doo Wap to Disco, Slow Love Ballads to down and dirty Rock and Roll, Blues can do it all, his way. You’re gonna love it!

The Company. Is Laurine, local dj, kj (karaoke jock, for the uneducated!) and reggae sound lighting technician. A Key West resident for over 23 years, Laurine has been keeping “company” with Captain Blues, on stage for over 16 years.

They have been delighted with the talent of their Goombay audiences at Bourbon Street Gardens for the last several years, and will open the stage to karaoke artists, time permitting.

Captain Blues and Company is a Florida Goombay tradition so come on out and enjoy the good time!
