MARTHA dePOO FEATURED ARTIST SHOW AT KEY WEST ART CENTER

The Key West Art Center is pleased to announce our first featured artist show of 2015, showcasing the artwork of the talented artist, Martha dePoo. The exhibit will be on display from January 16th through the 29th. An Opening Reception is scheduled for Friday, January 16th from 5 to 7 pm.

A long time member of the Key West Art Center, Martha dePoo has a very recognizable, unique, personal style. Some of her favorite subject matter include Key West’s most beloved establishments, attractions, and historic homes. All of her paintings are infused with a very colorful palette, capturing the vibrant colors that surround us here in the Florida Keys. For this show, Martha took inspiration from old photos that she was able to view with the help of Tom Hambright at the Key West Library. Martha dePoo is a master of the watercolor painting medium, and her paintings are local favorites.

Martha is a third generation Key West artist. She is the daughter of Suzie dePoo, and the granddaughter of Isabelle Anti (known as Belanti). For this show, she has painted a nice selection of her favorite locations remembered from a lifetime lived in Key West. Some you will recognize, others have passed into memory. Martha’s watercolor paintings convey a whimsical interpretation of living in Key West that all can appreciate. Truly a greatly talented painter, this show is not to be missed!

Accompanying Martha dePoo’s work, the Art Center will also feature crafts from Art Center members, as a prelude to the Key West Craft Show, scheduled for the weekend of January 24th and 25th on Whitehead Street.

This is the first in a series of winter shows by member artists at the Key West Art Center, a non-profit community art gallery located at 301 Front Street, and open every day from 10 am to 5 pm. Call 294-1241 or visit www.keywestartcenter.com for more information.
