Sheriff has new mobile app

SPECIAL TO KONK LIFE

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has a new way to communicate with the public. A new mobile application for smartphones is now available on Google Play and the Apple Store.

“We think it is important to let people know what we are doing, and this is just one more way for us to do that,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “This app will give people immediate information about traffic accidents via our WebCAD feature as well as information about arrests and news and events from the Sheriff’s Office.”

The smartphone application brings the ever popular Arrests / Mug shots feature from the Sheriff’s Office website to people’s phones. WebCAD – the Sheriff’s Office live calls for service which people now access via the web – will bring traffic updates to people’s phones. The application will also feature the Sheriff’s Office Blog, Facebook pages and Twitter feed. Other features:

  • Make a CrimeStoppers tip from your phone
  • Call or email members of the Sheriff’s Office from the app
  • Take the Sheriff’s Office survey to let the office know what you think of its service
  • Make a comment about the Sheriff’s Office, or commend an employee
  • See a complete listing, including photos, of sexual offenders who live in Monroe County

The cost of developing the app comes from funds derived from advertising on the Sheriff’s Office website. No taxpayer money was used for the application. Currently, bonding companies and attorneys can purchase ads on the site. The ads bring in approximately $25,000 per year. The initial development costs of the app were $6,000 and yearly maintenance, which will also come from advertising funds, will be about $2,000 a year. The app was developed by MyOCV.com / Thesheriffapp.com.
